These champagnes are dense and concentrated. They impress with their minerality and persistence. The top cuvées are powerful, complex and precise. Above all, the Cuvée des Caudalies Millésimé. In the 2005, 2008 and 2010 vintages, this wine is one of the best that the Côte des Blancs has to offer.

Champagne De Sousa

|
The De Sousa estate with its almost 10 hectares is located in Avize on the Côte des Blancs. The countless small vineyard parcels (over 40 in total) are also spread across the municipalities of Cramant, Oger and Mesnil-sur-Oger. Pretty much the most sought-after places in Champagne. This outstanding terroir is home to a number of great winegrowers. With its very high chalk content, the soil offers perfect conditions for expressive sparkling wines.

Already with the house cuvée Tradition Brut the style and ideas of the De Sousa family are clearly recognisable. The classic brut smells of citrus fruits and almonds, with a slight hint of oxidised apple. The seven grams of dosage are not noticeable. The champagne is dry to the mineral finish.

The grapes for the Cuvée 3A come from the villages of Avize, Ay and Ambonnay, which are fermented together. A sensational marriage of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with a high level of complexity. Erick De Soussa has been cultivating his own Réserve Perpetuelle for this champagne for some time. On the palate, it is initially soft, with ripe and juicy fruit as well as a palate-filling, small-pearled mousseux and plenty of umami. Round and full, it has a supportive bitterness with dense extract, notes of citrus oil, cherries and raspberries.

The rare Cuvée de Caudalies Millésime is one of the very best Blanc de Blancs and is still an insider tip among the great wines of Champagne. It combines a lot of fruit with smoke and salinity.

Perfect balance and an endless finish.

Pioneer and role model
Erick De Sousa recognised early on that it is not enough to be rooted in great terroir. Care and respect for the vines are paramount in order to reveal their character and realise their potential in a sustainable way, time and time again. There are firm values in the De Sousa family: respect for nature, a sincere love of good work, quality and innovation. Erick's three children carry on these convictions in his spirit.
