Out of stock

Spicy and balanced with extract-rich fruit and immense depth, it shines with light-hearted nonchalance despite its profound density and great age. The fruit is clear as a bell and fresh and the ripe tannins animate with a delicate bitter tone in the long, ethereally cool finish. The 1903 was named after the planting date of the oldest Carignan vines of the Domaine and comes from plots in Sant Euénie, lo Ginèvre and Las Trabasseres.

Tasting note from from 07.06.2021, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet met at the agricultural college in Perpignan, but went their separate ways at first. In 2003, they borrowed money from friends and set up their own business. The name-giving area around the winery was actually called Roc Blanc, named after a white quartz vein protruding from the black slate. However, Marjorie decided to rename it Roc des Anges Engelsfelsen. In the meantime, the winery is one of the top addresses in the region and comprises 30 hectares of vines on a mosaic of different soils.

The 1903 is named after the planting date of the Domaine's oldest Carignan vines and comes from plots in Sant Euénie, lo Ginèvre and Las Trabasseres.

Color

Purple red with black core and violet reflections.

Nose

The 1903 Carignan from Roc des Anges bundles its rich fruit in deep dark voluptuousness - blackberries, mulberries and dark plums become as well as black heart cherries fill its basket and remind in their concentration of the finest English cassis jelly. With increasing aeration, notes of black cardamom tentatively emerge with smoky top notes, cold ash, light tobacco leaf and black olive tapenade complete the Mediterranean orgy.

Mouth

With great finesse, the 1903 flows over the drinker's palate. Silky and supple with finely woven tannin, the profound fruit glides like a hoovercraft over the pulsating slate minerality. Spicy and balanced with extract-rich fruit and immense depth, it shines with light-hearted nonchalance despite its profound density and great age. The fruit is clear as a bell and fresh and the ripe tannins animate with a delicate bitter tone in the long, ethereally cool finish.
