The 16 Filari Nero d'Avola of the Azienda Agricola Case Alte grows at 500 metres altitude on loamy and sandy soils. The vines, planted in 1998, are trellised and pruned in Guyot. With a vine density of 3500 vines per hectare, the grapes are thinned before veraison and yield an average of six tonnes per hectare, which condensed into 7826 bottles in 2019. The grapes are hand-picked into small, eight-kilo bins and first destemmed in the cellar. The must is fermented in steel with selected yeasts at 23°C, and the grape cap is punched down daily during the 10-12 day fermentation. The malolactic fermentation is spontaneous before the wine is aged for eight months in French oak and then for six months in the bottle.
Color
Dark ruby red with violet reflections and black core.
Nose
The 2019 16 Filari Nero d'Avola from Case Alte boasts rich fruit from the goblet. Dark-fruited, it is reminiscent of blackberries and mulberries with black cherry extract and wild raspberry freshness. The spice box donates a round of cloves, allspice and mace, herbal notes of rosemary, black olives and tobacco make the wheel go round.
Mouth
With its fine tannin structure and balanced appearance, the 16 Filari quickly wraps you around its finger. The silky tannin seems polished by the well-integrated acidity, the joyful fruit shows itself filigree and refreshingly light-fruited with a persistent finish in contrast to the intense and dark nose. Pleasantly upbeat Nero d'Avola from the category of everyday pleasures from Monday to Friday.
